In 2011, National Association of Manufacturers President and CEO Jay Timmons laid out a vision for The Manufacturing Institute to become the premier authority on the manufacturing workforce and trusted partner for government officials and industry leaders alike.
In 2019, that vision truly took shape, with major quantifiable advances in all of our growing areas of focus: youth, veterans, women, workers and diversity and inclusion. Our voice on the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board, leadership with the Creators Wanted workforce campaign and role in the Pledge to America’s Workers repeatedly elevated the Institute to the national stage. Manufacturers’ overwhelming support for Creators Wanted, even through the ongoing pandemic crisis, is testament to the faith that leading manufacturers and other partners have in the Institute’s programs.
With the support of our sponsors and industry partners, Heroes MAKE America expanded from three to five bases and graduated nearly 300 participants. The 2019 STEP Ahead Awards Gala was our largest ever, honoring 130 winners selected out of more than 1,000 candidates, and the number of MFG Day events increased by more than 14% from the prior year. Perhaps nothing reflects the Institute’s success and stature better, however, than Toyota’s decision to transfer the stewardship of its extraordinarily successful and highly regarded FAME apprenticeship program to the MI.
2019 Annual Report
The NAM’s 2019 Annual Report captures the story of The Manufacturing Institute’s transformational year. Take a look at the “Supporting Your Workforce Through The Manufacturing Institute” section, which shows the invaluable work that your support of the Institute has made possible.
As we look to the future, particularly our recovery from the pandemic and long-term renewal and work in new areas to assist those looking for pathways to new opportunities, the Institute’s mission will be as important as ever. The pace of change in and the demands on our industry will only accelerate. But we can move forward confidently knowing that 2019 provided a solid foundation for our efforts in 2020, 2021 and beyond.
