The Manufacturing Institute Career Awareness Grant

The Manufacturing Institute, in partnership with Union Pacific (UP), seeks to advance career exploration programming to inspire the next generation of creators, with a focus on addressing the diversity and gender gap in manufacturing. The MI and UP aim to increase awareness of manufacturing industry career pathways and invest in strengthening underserved communities. The MI carefully considers each grant application it receives, seeking out diverse organizations whose philosophies, objectives and approaches align with the MI’s goals and mission.

The MI will award $10,000 grants annually to four local, regional or national nonprofit organizations dedicated to having a meaningful impact in the lives of high school–aged students in the following communities:

  • North Platte, Nebraska
  • Salina, Kansas
  • Salt Lake City/Ogden, Utah
  • Chicago, Illinois

Youth Partnerships

Year-round, The Manufacturing Institute creates and promotes youth content focused on learning more about manufacturing careers, activities, and programs, content and channel partnerships. The Institute has partnered with an education technology leader to develop a digital STEM education program that introduces students to careers in modern manufacturing. We seek to amplify both our content developed through content and channel partnerships, and the most effective work that manufacturers across the country are doing to engage youth audiences. The Institute also works closely with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to help extend career awareness programming to youth members

The Manufacturing Institute is also a founding member of the STEM Careers Coalition, a coalition of industry leaders that have joined forces to impact the culture of STEM education in K – 12 schools nationwide. The Coalition addresses the STEM workforce and inspiration gap by bridging industry and classrooms at unprecedented scale.
