The Manufacturing Institute, Arconic Foundation Highlight How Veterans Help Move American Manufacturing Forward

WASHINGTON, D.C.,  –

Over the next decade, a report by The Manufacturing Institute and Deloitte estimates that manufacturers will be unable to fill two million open positions due to the skills gap. Military veterans have the skills and leadership training manufacturers need in their workforce. Today, The Manufacturing Institute, with support from Arconic Foundation, released a video on the critical role veterans can and do play in the manufacturing workforce. The video highlights Arconic’s commitment to helping active duty members of the Armed Forces find their next passion. The video follows the story of an Arconic employee, Ronda, who shares how her military experience helped her prepare for her successful 27 years at the company.

More than 80 percent of U.S. manufacturers report a talent shortage. Meanwhile, thousands of service men and women exit the military and return to civilian life each month, possessing not only sound leadership and exemplary work ethic, but also rigorous technical training and experience.

“Veterans serve as valuable ambassadors to each other for guidance and support,” said Suzanne van de Raadt, vice president, global communications and program development at Arconic Foundation. “Arconic and Arconic Foundation are proud to help our veterans find a home in manufacturing. We are incredibly grateful for our amazing employees, like Ronda, who work tirelessly every day to make Arconic a top U.S. manufacturer.”

“Veterans’ skills easily translate to manufacturing careers. They practice teamwork, they are problem solvers, and they are proven leaders. What more could you want from an employee?” said Carolyn Lee, executive director at the Institute. “Our goal is to prepare and place veterans in long-term careers in advanced manufacturing, and the U.S. manufacturing industry will be stronger than ever if we continue to recruit and retain veterans into our workforce.”
