Diversity & Inclusion

The Manufacturing Institute is committed to supporting manufacturers’ efforts to build diverse and inclusive workplaces and strengthen equal opportunity in the United States. Diversity and inclusion make our workplaces stronger, and they also advance our country’s highest ideals.

Create a diverse and inclusive workplace

The Manufacturing Institute’s Diversity and Inclusion initiative aims to make the manufacturing workforce more reflective of our communities. The Manufacturing Institute leads the manufacturing industry in identifying and addressing systemic barriers to create and sustain a more diverse and inclusive manufacturing workforce and to equal opportunity in the United States. We work to foster and promote an inclusive culture in manufacturing, supporting manufacturers with their D&I efforts and amplifying best practices to advance nationally. Creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace is the right thing to do—and robust D&I initiatives will help manufacturers attract and retain a talented workforce.

Advancing D&I Research

The Manufacturing Institute gathered insights, experiences and plans from a chorus of D&I experts—interviewed by PwC and The Manufacturing Institute—from consumer and industrial manufacturing companies and other sectors.

The Manufacturing Institute studied the upskilling strategies utilized by manufacturers targeting their aging workforces and explored best practices on how these companies have been able to successfully extend the working years of this important group.

D&I Advisory Committee

The Manufacturing Institute’s D&I Advisory Committee helps guide growth and advise on program elements to further the engagement of key populations of our existing and future workforce. The Advisory Committee drives industry action to foster and promote an inclusive culture in manufacturing, support manufacturers with tangible deliverables and amplify best practices.
