Brief Description of Institution:
Situated in Winston-Salem, N.C., Forsyth Tech opened in the fall of 1960 as the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Industrial Education Center, offering courses in such areas as automotive mechanics, machine shop, electronics and practical nursing. The school added adult enrichment and adult basic education in the 1960s; allied health, police science (now criminal justice) and two-year nursing degree programs in the 1970s; and a college transfer program in the 1980s.

The College has added programs and classrooms, laboratories, administrative space and off-campus locations since the 1990s and has more than 1.1 million square feet of space over 13 locations in two counties and about 10,000 curriculum students. One of four national pilot sites for the NAM-Endorsed Skills Certification System, Forsyth Tech’s offers the Career Readiness Certificate (“CRC”) and other third party certifications to students in its manufacturing programs.

The college has recently become an AWS accredited test facility; its Computer Integrated Machining program is NIMS accredited and it is an authorized CRC and MSSC testing center.  In September 2012, Forsyth Tech received a $15 million Department of Labor grant to create the Community College Consortium for Bioscience Credentials, which comprises 12 institutions nationwide.

The College offers more than 200 curriculum programs: 70 certificates; 67 Associate in Applied Science degrees; 37 diplomas; 25 programs available entirely online; and 20 college transfer degrees, Associate in Arts, Science or General Education. Forsyth Tech is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees, diplomas and certificates.

Multiple Campuses:
