While the industrial sector is the largest consumer of energy, its energy usage has plateaued at 1975 levels, while all other sectors' consumption has greatly increased. Thanks in large part to more efficient technologies and corporate energy reduction strategies, the industrial sector's overall energy use remains near 1975 levels. This plateau is in sharp contrast to transportation, residential, and commercial energy consumption, which in the same period rose 46, 36, and 84 percent, respectively.
