WASHINGTON, -  Today, The Manufacturing Institute, in partnership with Alcoa Foundation, released an employer playbook on hiring and retaining veterans. The guide, “From Military Front Lines to Manufacturing Front Lines: Veterans and Your Workforce,” contains tips and best practices for manufacturers on sourcing, hiring and retaining veterans.

The playbook was featured at an Employment Workshop Breakfast, as part of the Hiring our Heroes job fair for manufacturing at the Cleveland Convention Center. This full day of hiring-focused events was sponsored by Alcoa Foundation and conducted by the U. S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

More than 80 percent of manufacturers report they cannot find people to fill their skilled production jobs. Meanwhile, service men and women return home each month, possessing not only an exemplary work ethic, but also rigorous technical training and experience. The playbook and Employment Workshop were designed to help manufacturers connect with veterans with manufacturing skills, both from their military experience and from fast-track training at community colleges across the country.
