-  Today, The Manufacturing Institute announced their support in the passing of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The House of Representatives passed WIOA with bipartisan support of 415-6 as a bipartisan, bicameral legislation reauthorizing the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), to concentrate more on training the U.S. workforce for in-demand careers

Manufacturers are in need of a highly skilled workforce, have identified the skills that are necessary for success in manufacturing, and endorsed the credentials that train to those skills. Industry-recognized credentials are a key component to the solution. The Manufacturing Institute has launched the Skills Certification System. These certifications represent the skills standards that manufacturers can stand behind in posting jobs and evaluate applicants. To date, The Manufacturing Institute and its partners have issued 294,728 certifications, with a goal to reach 500,000 by 2016. WIOA recognizes these benefits and places a significant priority on this type of training.

Senators Patty Murray (D-WA), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Tom Harkin (D-IA), and Lamar Alexander (R-TN), along with their colleagues in the House of Representatives John Kline (R-MN), George Miller (D-CA), Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Ruben Hinojosa (D-TX) were important, key players in the passing of this act.
