West Memphis, AR, -  The Manufacturing Institute senior vice president Brent Weil is speaking at the “Close the Gap” employer forum today. Mid-South Community College hosted the employer forum, highlighting hands-on training and fast-track career options to build a skilled workforce needed for growing fields, including machining, welding, and industrial maintenance. The event was the first for the Greater Memphis Workforce Development Institute, an unprecedented collaboration between Mid-South Community College and Southwest Tennessee Community College.

The forum was an opportunity for Memphis area manufacturers to discuss their workforce challenges and provide input into the training modules at the two community colleges. Participants will discuss the skills gap crisis American manufacturers are currently facing and best practices to address the skills gap. Joining the event were the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Memphis Chamber of Commerce, the West Memphis Chamber of Commerce, and the Marion Chamber of Commerce.
