-  Today, Jennifer McNelly, president of The Manufacturing Institute, will celebrate Manufacturing Day by meeting with local manufacturers, educators and elected officials to highlight Kentucky’s successful approach to closing the manufacturing skills gap and to emphasize the importance of manufacturing to the Kentucky’s, and the U.S., economy.

McNelly will join Kentucky’s Education and Workforce Development Secretary, Tom Zawacki, on a visit to Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Georgetown, KY to learn about their solution to the skills gap, their Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program. The program was recently named the top career program in the nation by the National Careers Pathway Network.

McNelly will also meet with educators from Western Kentucky University to discuss the use of industry-based certifications and best practices to implement manufacturing programs.
