Washington, DC, -  February marks Career and Technical Education Month and a great opportunity to highlight the work of SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA is a Career and Technical Student Organization that prepares a 300,000 student membership for careers in trade, technical and service occupations. The national organization has over 13,000 school chapters and combines leadership opportunities, community involvement and a bit of healthy competition. Manufacturing themed competitions include CNC Milling, CNC Turning, Automated Manufacturing Technology, Welding and Mechantronics.

The students who participate in SkillsUSA come from all walks of life. One might develop an interest in plumbing by working with a family member during the summer. Another might have gone through first aid and CPR training because of an interest in medicine. SkillsUSA truly offers something for everyone. But as diverse as the organization’s competitions are, there is one underlying theme: leadership.

Check out the success of SkillsUSA, as the Nebraska Loves Our Public Schools blog does a feature video on the program’s state championship competition.
