-  USA Today highlighted the Institute’s Skill Certification System in an article, Lack of Skilled Employees Hurting Manufacturing, written on July 3. The article, which focused on the skills gap and unfilled jobs within the manufacturing industry, spoke of the Institute’s efforts to develop 'industry-endorsed training programs that give graduates nationally recognized, portable skills.'

“Developed with industry input and support, these programs give students an education they can take with them wherever the job market leads and provides employers with a diploma they know they can trust.” The article states that, “States should build on this strong foundation and encourage community colleges to adopt these programs, and work with the Manufacturing Institute to expand them to additional fields.”

The Manufacturing Institute has created the NAM-Endorsed Manufacturing Skills Certification System to directly address the deficits in manufacturing education and training, which are limiting the pool of qualified candidates for high-quality manufacturing jobs.
