-  The Manufacturing Institute is proud to announce a new initiative that will recognize the critical skills that are learned in settings other than educational institutions but are highly sought by manufacturers. The Institute entered the National Badges “movement” in a partnership with Brigham Young University’s David O. McKay School of Education, Degreed, SkillsUSA and Project Lead the Way, to create the National Manufacturing Badges System. In a competition sponsored by the MacArthur and Mozilla Foundations, with over 500 organizational applications, the Institute presented the National Manufacturing Badge System to recognize SkillsUSA competitors and Project Lead the Way completers with National Badges to attach to their portfolios.  The system was one of just 30 winners, receiving a national award of $150,000.

In a related competition by the U.S. Veterans Administration, the Institute was chosen to develop and implement Veterans Service Badges Aligned to Manufacturing, with a $25,000 grant award.

The following release was issued by Mozilla, MacArthur Foundation, and Hastac about the winners of the Badges for Lifelong Learning Competition.
