-  Today in Houston, Texas, the Manufacturing Institute celebrates the first in a series of graduations for the inaugural class of "English for Advanced Manufacturing and the Skilled Trades."  Hosted by Gulf States Toyota and Lone Star Corporate College, the event celebrates the completion of 77 participants in “English for Advanced Manufacturing and the Skilled Trades,” designed to address the growing Hispanic workforce with language proficiency challenges in manufacturing.  In partnership with Retention Education and the Texas Workforce Commission, the proven and innovative language acquisition program Sed de Saber, the Institute built the “English for Advanced Manufacturing and the Skilled Trades” curriculum.  In total the program will train 350  Hispanic workers in foundational English language skills necessary for entry-level jobs in manufacturing.
