The Manufacturing Institute has partnered with the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Innovation Accelerator to conduct a series of Manufacturing Technology Forums designed to increase the adoption and use of new technologies by U.S. manufacturers.  These forums will include start-up companies that have received a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from NSF and manufacturers from the selected region hosting the forum that have an interest in applying new technologies to their manufacturing process.

The Manufacturing Technology Forums have three primary goals:

  1. Connect start-up companies developing advanced technologies under the SBIR program with manufacturers potentially interested in those technologies in hopes of developing a business relationship;

  2. Make U.S. manufacturers operating in advanced technology fields aware of the SBIR program as a resource for future technology requirements;

  3. Impact the direction of future NSF SBIR solicitations by providing NSF officials with specific technology challenges that U.S. manufacturers face.


The Manufacturing Institute and NSF intend to hold forums in regions around the country that have identified clusters in sectors that correspond to the technology areas in which NSF funds start-up companies.  This includes:
