The Dow Chemical Company
“Manufacturing enables me to put my business, science and math skills to practical use, delivering tangible results. There is tremendous satisfaction in solving problems, improving the safety of our workers while increasing reliability and productivity, and making a positive impact on business success. A culture of family pervades the global manufacturing world and no matter the challenge, people pull together to solve issues.”
Susan has held a variety of manufacturing roles across Dow businesses and was recently named Operations Director for the company’s Houston Area Operations. Prior to this, she was Corporate Director for Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Operations, where she directed EH&S activities throughout the company, motivating leaders and employees alike to make safety personal and a top priority. Under Susan’s leadership, Dow has made significant progress in eliminating injuries, preventing adverse environmental and health impacts, reducing waste and emissions, and promoting resource conservation across the product life cycle.
Susan has also delivered key improvements in leadership engagement, ensuring that leaders get EH&S experience, training and tools. In 2012, Dow achieved its best-ever EH&S performance in multiple categories related to a key 2015 Sustainability Goal: Local Protection of Human Health and the Environment.
