Gentry Hoffman
Global Sourcing Manager
LORD Corporation

“Manufacturing is exciting because you get to experience the full product life-cycle from understanding the customer’s needs, through design and development, and the delivery of the final product. I enjoy the fast-paced environment, complex problem solving, and team collaboration.”

Gentry has seen her responsibilities grow over her five years with LORD Corporation. Through her tenacity and commitment, she’s led her team to exceed expectations when confronted with cost and quality pressures in one of the legacy product lines. Over the last three years, her team has taken the $35M in spending and resourced it globally, achieving cost savings and enhancing both quality and on-time delivery. This result ultimately provided value for both internal stakeholders and external customers. Gentry faced the challenge of merging different teams together in a time of significant corporate reorganization, but her strong supportive leadership style re-energized the group and built confidence. Her combination of technical and business backgrounds make her a strong liaison between engineering, supply chain, and the manufacturing plants.
Gentry graduated as only one of three women in her college with an undergraduate degree in Materials Science and Engineering. She has grown as a leader, and has become an even stronger advocate for educating and mentoring young women about STEM opportunities. She works closely with her team to coach individual performance and support individual career advancement.
Gentry is also a member of the LORD STEM committee. She started a “Women in STEM Chats” at the STEM Wake County Early College High School, where LORD female leaders share their career journeys and different opportunities in STEM fields with female students. She also organized a job shadowing day at LORD, for high school students in STEM, so they could experience what different roles do first-hand. Outside of LORD Corporation, Gentry has actively participated in the Junior League of Raleigh, serving two years on the board, among other efforts.
