Nicole McGlone-Santistevan
Vice President Operations Industrial Petrochemical
BASF Corporation
Freeport, TX

“I enjoy working in manufacturing because of the teamwork involved with implementing projects and solving problems. It is fun to see a project go through the steps of planning, development, construction, and startup.”

Nicki has spent more than 25 years in chemical manufacturing in various roles from research to production, then into manufacturing management.  Nicki has a unique talent for leading people beyond her team of direct reports, which makes her a versatile and effective leader.
One of Nicki's largest contributions to the organization came in her role as manufacturing representative for the startup of a new production plant to produce 2-Ethylhexyl Acrylate in Freeport, Texas.  This was the first plant within BASF to utilize the new technology which was scaled-up from the lab to a world scale manufacturing plant.  She was later able to take that experience and lead a global team to success in Germany, overcoming both cultural differences and the challenges of managing a male-dominated team.  Nicki has received technology patents associated with the optimization of the 2-Ethylhexyl Acrylate and Butyl Acrylate plants.
Nicki has been a formal and informal mentor for many years. She has the tenure to be credible in giving guidance, and she is not only open and accessible, but an excellent listener who takes actions to benefit others.  She has participated on numerous BASF internal discussion panels to share her career path and has been the executive sponsor for Women in Business at the Freeport site.
She also believes in sharing her skills to improve the communities she lives and works in. From a leadership role in The United Way, to participation in the local chamber of commerce, and inspiring girls to get interested in science and technology, Nicki has had a broad impact in the community.
