Amelia Folkins
Engineer, 300mm Manufacturing Engineering
Hopewell Junction, NY

“Manufacturing is such a dynamic environment. There are always exciting problems to fix and room for continuous improvement. You have an opportunity to make your mark and see your projects really make a difference.”

Amelia has made outstanding technical and leadership contributions in her short tenure.  When she joined the team she quickly developed the skills required to become a team leader and then broadened her scope to a people management role.  She’s currently responsible for technical and interpersonal leadership for the Etch Equipment and Maintenance organization - a role that has required her to quickly grasp manufacturing concepts that were not part of her prior experience.
In a previous capacity, Amelia was responsible for wastewater treatment at the site. Amelia designed and coordinated the installation of a new process to treat wastewater byproducts previously drummed at the tool and sent offsite for disposal as hazardous waste.  The new method reduced site-generated hazardous waste by 100,000 pounds and saved over $50,000 annually. In recognition of her innovation, Amelia received an Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.
Amelia has actively sought mentee relationships to grow her career and build her network. She has also taken on a mentor role for other new hires, including participating in a leadership capacity with the New Hire Network.
Amelia believes in giving back to the community.  Her efforts are focused on support for her alma mater, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, along with the Excelsior Academy, a Pathways to Technology Early College High School program. She is a member of the executive committee of RPI’s alumni fundraising organization, “WeRGold,” which allows alumni to donate directly to student projects. At Excelsior Academy, Amelia served as a mentor to the first class of 9th grade students with a multi-year commitment to support and engage with students until they graduate with their Associate’s Degree in Applied Science.
