Jonna Gerken
Deputy CIPT Leader, 30K Core, Hot Section Engineering
Pratt & Whitney

East Hartford, CT

“As a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Board of Directors and the 2011 Pratt & Whitney Diversity & Inclusion Award recipient, I take great pride in being a role model to newer engineers, helping break down barriers in the industry, and creating a more inclusive work environment.”

Jonna has built a career on being at the forefront of new product development and related activities.  Her engineering innovativeness and leadership skills have resulted in improved efficiencies, enhanced client satisfaction, and reduced waste.  Whether working on a new product or existing application, Jonna’s efforts have helped the corporation meet contract requirements more effectively.  Not simply a technical resource, Jonna has worked with multi-disciplinary teams to create and test prototypes which ultimately led to the development of technology that was instrumental in next generation product designs.  She also led the organization to ACE Gold certification, which exemplifies a commitment to best practices and continuous improvement in both engineering and services.  Her personal and professional support system have helped her be successful.

Her membership and active participation in the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) has allowed her to develop skills that will benefit her as she continues to grow professionally, including public speaking, team building, conflict resolution, and leadership.  She is able to parlay these skills into her daily work and benefit her colleagues and the organization as a whole.  She’s especially interested in diversity issues, and has been recognized for those efforts.  Jonna also feels it’s essential to champion the voices of women in engineering, and is happy to serve as a mentor for both women and men hoping to balance work and family.
