Karen oversees nutrition strategy and labeling compliance for all brands within The Schwan Food Company, along with monitoring and communicating emerging nutrition and health issues that impact our businesses and consumers. 
In 2011, the U.S. Department of Agriculture proposed new school nutrition rules that had the potential to impact Schwan’s Food Service’s ability to continue providing healthy and delicious school meals to America’s school children via the company’s valued school food service customers.  A comprehensive, multi-pronged strategy was developed to engage and educate USDA officials, Members of Congress and staff. Karen was an invaluable team member during this process. She drafted comments in response to the proposed rule and shared important facts and insights in letters to and meetings with Members of Congress and their staffs. Karen stepped up to publicly testify as an expert witness on school nutrition before the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee.
