Laura Drahn
Plant Manager
U.S. Silica Co.
West Columbia, SC

“Manufacturing encompasses innovation and team work.  It is the type of career in which one can work in a hands-on environment as well as be rewarded for his or her ideas and vision.  Manufacturing careers can offer limitless opportunities for those who seek it.”

As Plant Manager, Laura is responsible for the overall management, safety, direction, results, and coordination of two operating locations.  Laura is one of only two dual-role Plant Managers in the company, having full responsibility for the Columbia, SC, and Hurtsboro, AL, locations.  Under her leadership, both are performing well above profit expectations with perfect safety records.

Laura's strong leadership and elite people management skills make her a go-to resource for difficult assignments.  In 2008, Laura was tasked with turning around the Hurtsboro facility when it was operating in the red and being evaluated for permanent closure.  While maintaining her duties as Columbia Production Superintendent, Laura implemented innovative cost reduction measurements and efficiency gains.  In the span of two years, profitability grew nearly $400,000, allowing the operation to remain open.
