Andrea Chavez
Director of Manufacturing and Test Operations
Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp
Boulder, CO

“The manufacturing workforce turns dreams into reality. It’s where hopes and desires of customers – things they might have thought impossible – become tangible and serve the needs of the nation. We provide amazing engineering solutions at Ball Aerospace, but without our manufacturing talent and ingenuity bringing them to life, they just remain brilliant ideas on paper.”

As Director of Manufacturing and Test Operations at Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp, Andrea is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, integration and test of hardware for space and Earth science, weather, exploration, national security and intelligence programs. Her group of over 300 employees maintains 50,000 square feet of clean-room space, 22 environmental test chambers, and three machine shops, as well as numerous other manufacturing process centers.

Andrea controls an annual budget of $20 million and her organization provides capability to all company projects, totaling nearly $900 million in flight hardware.  Her team turns engineering designs into deliverable spacecraft, sensors, antennas, cameras and scientific instruments for missions such as Hubble Space Telescope, Suomi National Polar Orbiting Partnership, and the Kepler Space Telescope.
