Yvonne Schaeffer
Quality Engineering Supervisor - Production Class Loaders
John Deere

“For me manufacturing means opportunity, strength and stability. I am proud to work in an industry that provides so much to the communities around it, whether it's the guarantee of economic security by providing jobs, or the impact of the community service that so many in the industry embrace.”

Yvonne has driven significant improvements to Production Class Loaders manufactured at John Deere Davenport Works factories. She led a cross-functional team to develop a categorization methodology to drive projects and machine quality performance innovation. Spurring notable changes in factory quality and assembly processes, Yvonne’s efforts generated several initiatives that were key to improvements in field quality performance, operator engagement and continuous improvement ideation among wage employees. Yvonne was also integral to the development of engine-specific improvement plans for Construction and Forestry Division product lines which have been used to drive accountability throughout the organization. Likewise, she developed a new process for end-of-line verification that led to a factory-wide adoption of quality controlled verification on other product lines assembled at the facility.

Yvonne’s leadership spans the Davenport Works Quality organization, where she has worked tirelessly to unite teams. By leading a Society of Women Engineers (SWE) group mentoring session, Yvonne works closely with four early career female engineers to discuss topics that impact their professional and personal lives. Additionally, she lends her time and experience to personally mentor female engineering interns at Davenport Works, facilitating manufacturing facility tours, SWE webinar seminars, social outings and more. She has also organized a number of teambuilding events including summer outings, lunch and learns and group fundraising activities.

Yvonne’s passion for mentoring others extends to the community as well. Through Davenport Central High School’s Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates program, Yvonne has worked with at-risk students to help them improve future employable skills and guide them towards the next steps in life. As a Junior Achievement classroom volunteer for more than 10 years, Yvonne has participated in numerous fundraisers and professional skills development sessions to positively impact students. She also volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America and the National Forensics League’s Speech and Debate team at Davenport West High School.
