Julia Rubino
Vice President, Polyurethanes Rigid Raw Material Sales, North America
Covestro, LLC

“Manufacturing is an integral part of the customer experience. In my sales role, I listen to customer needs and develop solutions. Witnessing our customers transform our products into diverse applications inspires me. Manufacturing offers diverse career opportunities, allowing me to blend my technical background and communication skills without sacrificing either. “

As Vice President in the Polyurethanes business group in North America at Covestro, Julia’s interpersonal and leadership skills have earned her high levels of respect both inside and outside of the company. Overseeing a team of eight mid and senior-level managers, Julia is responsible for volume, revenue, and margin contribution in a traditionally male-dominated field. Through her dynamic, strategic mindset, Julia identified critical targeted customers with significant growth potential and executed on new business to support Covestro’s overall strategy. Continuously looking to push boundaries, she most recently led a cross-business unit regional team to improve customer satisfaction, working tirelessly to align very different values and expectations.

Since joining Covestro 18 years ago as a commercial trainee, Julia’s career has sky rocketed through various roles of increasing responsibility within the Polyurethanes business. Her diverse career path and range of experiences make Julia a tremendous resource for employees throughout the organization. Julia is particularly proud to have mentored an employee from the beginning of his career through mid-level management. In her role as the Polyurethane North American Leadership sponsor for the Covestro Culture team, Julia established a dramatically new and innovative company culture. Her efforts helped break down barriers between different functions, allowing employees to reimagine new ways of interacting. Julia encourages open dialogue between team members to create the best solutions, while delivering results and ensuring projects remain on track. Her passion for people and culture has brought an exciting, fresh element to Covestro’s business as a chemical manufacturer.

Julia embraces Covestro's sustainability strategy in her community outreach efforts, as evidenced through her involvement with the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden. She serves on the Executive Committee and Board Development Committee, and was responsible for donating the EcoCommercial Building Conference Center to the organization. The completely energy-free, self-sustaining EcoCommercial building was designed and constructed by Penn State University students for a Solar Decathlon competition using recycled materials, as well as Covestro materials.
