Patti Opacic
Global Head, Project Portfolio Management & Innovation Excellence
Covestro, LLC

“I am passionate about manufacturing because it brings innovation to life. If the innovation process is the journey to a new customer solution, then manufacturing is the critical last leg in reaching our final destination.”

As the global head of project portfolio management & innovation excellence for the Coatings, Adhesives & Specialties business unit of Covestro LLC., Patti is directly involved with the Covestro innovation process known as Diamond. Within Diamond, Patti is responsible for effective implantation, training, improvement and organizational buy-in. She played a lead role in designing this process and transforming from a regional concept to one used across Covestro. Patti and her team shepherded the Diamond Process from start to finish, rolling it out to North America in 2010. It became Covestro’s global standard for innovation in 2012.

Patti has been hugely influential at Covestro thanks to her strong leadership, passion and communication skills. Her ability to gain commitment from key stakeholders and manage conflict while finding compromise is what sets her apart. Because she is a talented thought leader, Patti has made time for mentorship throughout her career.

After the birth of her first child in 1996, Patti fought hard for flexibility for working mothers and became one of the first mothers to pilot the concept of telecommuting. Since then, she has mentored many other working moms on how to better achieve work-life balance. Across the company, Diamond project leaders seek Patti out to brainstorm solutions and help teams execute with excellence. Two years ago, she also started a volunteer work book club to stimulate intellectual curiosity and reading.

Outside of the office, Patti has been actively involved in charities such as United Way. She chaired the first-ever Covestro United Way Gala and continues to actively participate in events such as the annual “Breakfast with Santa” fundraiser. Over the years, she has filled backpacks with food to combat child hunger, organized Christmas presents for needy children and even assembled furniture for struggling families. Patti is a committed leader in every project she pursues.
