Samantha Burger
Manufacturing M.E. Co-op
General Motors - Flint Assembly Center

“I am passionate about manufacturing because it allows me to use my creativity to deliver inspiring products to consumers.”

Samantha has proven to be an emerging leader within General Motors’ (GM) manufacturing team. She recently designed and conducted a General Motors North American corporate workshop to combat quality issues by bringing people from across North America together to innovate new ideas. Her enthusiasm and commitment to improve quality were vital to the workshop, which resulted in ideas that are now being implemented throughout several GM locations. When Samantha served as both a Production and Maintenance Group Leader, she navigated difficult situations, managed conflict, responded to changing demands and led a team with far more experience than she had at the time. Tackling these roles simultaneously is a tough feat, yet Samantha led the Production department to achieve its goals of throughput and quality—all while demonstrating a willingness to step in and help her peers.

Samantha has made tremendous strides in helping younger generations become excited about engineering and manufacturing. As a member of the Flint, Michigan chapter of the Society of Women Engineers, Samantha has mentored many aspiring engineers who are in middle and high school. In addition to participating in engineering workshops for youth, Samantha has worked with students who aspire to attend Kettering University to help them reach their goals, and has tutored Mott Community College students in Math and Science. She continues to keep in touch with many of the students she has worked with along the way.

Beyond her commitment to engaging with area students, Samantha has played huge part in leading many volunteer efforts in her community. She has volunteered at Eastern Michigan and Gleaners food banks, and has helped to raise money for charities such as Toys for Tots, Children's Miracle Network, and Flint Water Crisis by volunteering at Mott Community College sporting events. Samantha has also lent a helping hand to the Flint community by participating in General Motors and Kettering University’s cleanup day.
