Plant Manager, Portland Facility
The Sherwin-Williams Company
"I was hooked from the moment I walked into my first manufacturing facility. It's a collective effort of people and processes through inspired creativity that builds something great. The biggest reward is to see your product have a lasting positive experience for customers and improving the quality of their work."
Sharon excels at leading her teams by utilizing proven Lean methodologies and creative problem solving to drive consistent bottom-line improvements. Earning both her Six-Sigma Green belt and Black belt certifications early in her career, Sharon has led various continuous improvement projects resulting in over $2-million reduction in annual supply chain and manufacturing operating costs. She builds strong trusting relationships, actively removes constraints, and ensures open and timely communication with employees, which has motivated her teams to become increasingly high performing in safety and productivity. Sharon has become a strategic partner within her division to integrate a Lean culture across more than 25 North American manufacturing sites.
Sharon takes pride in bringing in and mentoring new talent into operations leadership roles. Recently her operations manager was promoted to a plant manager role at another manufacturing location, and Sharon made the decision to promote her female quality manager to backfill the operations role. Not having prior experience in supervising production, this employee accepted the role knowing that she had Sharon to support and mentor her in this career change. Sharon made the personal investment in developing the talent needed to expand the division’s leadership bench strength. Sharon also serves as a coach for other operations and plant managers and is frequently sought out to vet ideas or navigate through challenges.
To serve her community and promote STEM opportunities in manufacturing, Sharon has tutored high school students in math and other subjects, as well as volunteering for science fairs at local middle schools. Since moving to Portland, she has connected with the Pacific North West chapter of Girls, Inc. to assist with their STEM based Operation SMART program.
