Melissa oversees the team of engineers responsible for planning, constructing, and installing the infrastructure and process equipment for large capital projects (>$300M annually). By challenging the multidisciplinary team in project execution methodology, employing new capabilities, driving a zero-loss mindset, and supporting best cost technical solutions, Melissa led the team to achieve over $100M in cost avoidance. In each role she’s had, Melissa has challenged the status quo and embraced new thinking on Goodyear’s systems and processes.
Melissa mentors both formally and informally at Goodyear. Within her department, Melissa focuses on developing the team as skilled technical engineers and collaborative business partners by building upon their strengths, encouraging open and transparent communication, and improving listening skills. Ultimately, this results in a collaborative and high performing environment. She has also been instrumental in improving the Global Engineering co-op program by working with her colleagues to create clear objectives focused on increasing the diversity and overall success rate of the program. With a different strategy needed for millennials, the co-op program is utilized to pilot ideas and receive feedback.
In addition to her leadership roles, Melissa volunteers both professionally and personally. Melissa participated in the Community Leadership Institute (partnered with Leadership Akron) which expanded her view of community involvement and leadership within Goodyear. She has also supported a range of United Way efforts and she takes part in the annual Goodyear STEM day which informs and educates middle and high school students on the educational and professional opportunities that exist within STEM fields. Melissa is also a member of 100+ Women Who Care Medina organization.
