Mbeke Perez
Process Safety Engineer
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company

"Working in the manufacturing industry allows me to gain experience in so many different aspects of a business. From safely producing a quality product, to working with customers to ensure their needs are addressed, there's a wealth of knowledge to be gained that few other industries can provide."

Mbeke became a valuable resource and leader within the organization by translating her technical knowledge to process improvements in her plants.  She was the natural choice to spearhead the effort to identify MOC software that will improve the efficiency of all process safety engineers throughout Chemical Operations. Her understanding of the manual MOC process and the former MOC software used, plus her extensive knowledge of computer software and her ability to assimilate and evaluate new ideas, made her an ideal candidate for this effort.

Mbeke also serves as the co-Chair of the United Way and Community Service programs of the Goodyear Employee Activities Committee. In this capacity she has led the annual pledge campaign, planned a “Day of Caring” volunteer activity at a local facility for those with mental challenges, and organized numerous fundraisers over the last several years. She is also the Wellness Chair and has planned various wellness activities, such as the Rodeo Run, the Heart Walk, and fitness challenges, all to benefit charities.

Mbeke is a mentor in and out of work. In her current role as process safety engineer, she often has to help the Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) participants understand the purpose and methodology of PHA’s. She accomplishes this with respect, a sense of humor, and a thorough knowledge of the subject. Mbeke also serves as a Big Sister in the local Big Brothers Big Sisters program, providing friendship and mentoring to her Little Sister. She is admired and respected by her peers, mentees, management, and the community.
