Kalyani Mallela
Senior Manager, Verification and Validation
Philips Healthcare

"I have had a very rewarding career being able to develop and manufacture high quality medical device products that help to save a loved one’s life anywhere in the world. Promoting innovation and continuous improvement, while collaborating with people from various disciplines, is what I look forward to each day."

Kalyani has demonstrated her ability to lead by forming and managing new teams both at Philips Healthcare, as Senior Manager of Verification and Validation; and at Starkey Hearing Technologies, as Manager of Systems Verification Engineering. She started with a team of seven members at Philips, growing it to a size of 20 members within five months and successfully driving several product delivery projects to completion on time. She brings eagerness, integrity, and personal drive to everything she undertakes, and continually spearheads process improvement initiatives within and across departments; consistently delivering results.

Kalyani inspires children, students, and professionals to be engaged in STEM; works diligently towards their advancement, and supports their achievements. She does this through mentoring and being a champion, both at her workplace and for future engineers. Kalyani has served as both an informal and formal mentor to new employees. She has mentored students through Eagan High School Mentoring Program and has been a role model to many students pursuing engineering.

Kalyani joined the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) in 2008 and has held multiple outreach and leadership roles at both the local and national levels. She was instrumental in reaching over 5,000 students through classroom visits and hands-on activities. Kalyani has been recognized at many levels including receiving SWE Distinguished New Engineer Award in 2015 and the Discover E New Faces of Engineering in 2014. She was also a member of the Minnesota STEM Network, a grassroots initiative to form a community among STEM stakeholders.
