“I have been fortunate to have several excellent role models throughout my career. What they all have in common is a drive for personal and technical excellence, combined with genuine compassion for those on their team. I strive to follow their example and treat my colleagues with respect and kindness.”

As part of the Company’s Research and Development team, Bethann plays a role in overseeing the innovation process for developing new food products at The J.M. Smucker Company, a leading marketer and manufacturer of fruit spreads, retail packaged coffee, peanut butter, shortening and oils, ice cream toppings, sweetened condensed milk, and natural foods products in North America.

Bethann’s passion for engineering drives her to participate in numerous STEM education and outreach activities. For more than 15 years, she has dedicated countless hours to the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).  She has also shared her corporate engineering insights and experience with students through The University of Akron Women in Engineering Program.

At Smucker, Bethann is committed to recruiting and mentoring to grow the engineering profession. Her effectiveness in managing people is highlighted by her recent development of training courses for project management and critical thinking, and she manages the Company’s relationship with The University of Akron engineering cooperative (co-op) education program. She provides both technical supervision and professional development coaching to co-op students and full-time employees. As a trainer for the intern onboarding program, she helps students transition to the work setting.

Her colleagues describe Bethann as having a contagious positive spirit, an energetic attitude, an ability to think outside of the box, and a unique attention to detail.
