Rhonda Gilyard
Manager - Body Operations
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, TABC
Long Beach, CA

"Manufacturing is truly about people and this drives my passion. I enjoy problem solving and having a positive impact on people's lives. I also enjoy learning from others, which I believe makes me more understanding and knowledgeable, helping me to build and promote stronger teamwork within the group.”

Rhonda demonstrates an exceptional attitude as she oversees all aspects of production and meets daily operation challenges in her role as the Body Operations Manager at TABC.  From the beginning of her career as a quality engineer at TABC, she was immediately valuable, taking a lead role in developing quality standards resulting in vast quality performance improvements.

Rhonda has continued to contribute in her roles at TABC, including the development of an extensive Quality training program for the company’s manufacturing shops.  She worked with TABC’s Corporate Advisor and ultimately developed what would become the benchmark for North America. These materials have been used for the last three years to train TABC team members in this important area with tremendous impact.  Rhonda also is a certified auditor and trainer for Quality systems (QS9000).   She leads and coaches many cross functional teams in all areas of problem solving.

Rhonda has the unique ability to engage all levels of the organization to work as one team in order to achieve the common goal.  She demonstrates this both on the job and in the Long Beach community as TABC's representative on the Executive Board for California Conference for Equality and Justice. Additionally, she has been an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (a public service organization) for 24 years, where some activities have included her leading STEM career workshops for middle and high school girls. She also demonstrates great resilience and perseverance to achieve the common objective.  When charged with responsibilities outside of her area of expertise, Rhonda has been able to have an immediate positive impact by working relentlessly to understand her new environment and identify where improvements were needed.   Her “can-do” attitude and commitment to quality make her an excellent role model.
