Sylvia is a solution-driven leader whose passion for education has led her to a role with myriad responsibilities and facets. Through humanitarian efforts, such as BisonCares, internal efforts, and external collaborations, Sylvia is actively engaging the workforce of today while simultaneously cultivating tomorrow’s workforce. As an internal resource, she initiated a health program that offers free risk assessments, an on-site health provider, and dollar-incentives for employees to embrace a healthy lifestyle. She’s the driving force behind a new internship program developed by Bison in conjunction with local colleges and manufacturer designed to combat the shortage of qualified entry-level workers in the manufacturing sector. Sylvia champions readiness and competency, both in the implementation of assessment tools for those entering the workforce, and with the certification program used on-site at Bison. She’s implemented NAM’s stackable credentials at Bison Gear for all production personnel, improving productivity within the organization by 32%, and is currently providing leadership on a state-wide STEM manufacturing program of study.
Sylvia’s commitment to leadership, professional development, and lifelong learning extend beyond her career at Bison. She speaks fluent Spanish and mentors adults to embrace English as a second language. She was selected by the National Association of Women in Business Owners and the Business Ledger as one of the 2007 “Influential Women in Business” award. In 2011, she was recognized by WorkForce Chicago for Bison’s commitment to exemplary learning and development. In 2012, she was named a Healthcare Consumerism Superstar for her innovative corporate health and wellness plan implementation. She also shares her passions and talents with a variety of local boards and organizations. Sylvia is a dynamic advocate for both education and manufacturing as careers, and communicates that advocacy whenever she can.
