EH&S Responsible Care Director
The Dow Chemical Company
“Manufacturing is a great fit if you like fast pace and constantly changing environment. You get quick feedback to your efforts and 'check marks' or accomplishments are plentiful. There is also a certain thrill to seeing something new take shape and then proceed on its life cycle.”
Shari is responsible for managing all of the site’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) activities—including site-wide safety performance, ongoing implementation of Dow’s key safety initiatives, and Emergency Services and Security (ES&S). Her strong experience in manufacturing is critical to her role, giving her insight to influence and coordinate EH&S improvement projects that help eliminate incidents and keep the site injury-free. Shari’s leadership fosters a positive environment boasting millions of hours of injury-free work, and grows a culture of safety, teamwork, and process improvements.
Shari’s accomplishments have been shaped by more than twenty years of Manufacturing and Supply Chain experience across a diverse set of roles and in a range of settings. An experience early in her leadership career when she was responsible for communicating with the local community about a negative environmental impact event has made her a champion for EH&S. In 2012, Shari was named as one of the Dow 2012 Responsible Care Area Award winners.
Shari shares her passions and interests outside of work too. She previously sat on the Purdue University Engineering Education Advisory Board, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Central Michigan, the Saginaw Community Foundation, and the Michigan Chemistry Council. She is also active in Gays, Lesbians, and Allies at Dow (GLAD), and in the Dow Women’s Innovation Network (WIN), where she participates as a panel speaker to inspire other female leaders within the organization.
